How to Choose a Kindle Paperwhite Sleeve: A Handmade Buyer's Guide
A Kindle Paperwhite goes everywhere you do, which means it picks up scratches, dust, and the odd knock at the bottom of a bag. A good sleeve keeps the screen safe without adding bulk. Here is how we think about choosing one, and how our handmade Kindle Paperwhite sleeves are built.
Start with the fit
The current Kindle Paperwhite measures close to 6.9 by 4.9 inches. A sleeve sized at 6 by 8.5 inches gives the device a snug seat with a little room for a slim cover, so it slides in and out easily and does not rattle around. A loose sleeve lets the Kindle shift and rub; a tight one is a fight every time you read on the train. Snug is the sweet spot.
Look at the fabric, then the lining
Our Kindle Paperwhite sleeves are hand block-printed on cotton, with a soft inner lining that sits directly against the screen. The outer cotton takes daily handling well and keeps its colour; the lining is what protects the glass from dust and fine scratches. If a sleeve only mentions the outer fabric, ask what is inside.
Handmade holds up
Every sleeve we make is block-printed and stitched by hand in India. Small variations in the print are a sign of the craft, not a flaw, and the stitching is done to last through years of daily use. You are buying something a person made, not a moulded shell off a line.
Make it a gift
A Kindle sleeve is one of the easier gifts to get right for a reader. It is useful, it is personal, and it arrives gift-boxed from us. The block prints range from quiet florals to brighter stripes and hearts, so there is a design for the person you have in mind.
